On the Mall, Washington, DC, March 8, 2002: Women in Black mourn women victims and survivors of war. According to the United Nations, women and children are the "collateral damage" of war, whether they are killed outright, maimed for life, or survive, most often as widows and orphans, with dire prospects due to the cruel aftermath of war: famine, disease, and destruction and devastation everywhere.
